In 1983 Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture set a national handwriting model by official decree. It was revised in 2009, yet teachers still prefer the original, and children learn it in 2 steps: first huruf lepas, the loose letters, then huruf sambung, the joined cursive. The same model runs through the workbooks of the country’s big private publishers.
Playwrite ID Guides draws the letters of that model with the writing lines printed behind every letter, baseline, x-height, ascender and descender. It was made by TypeTogether, with Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, as the companion to Playwrite Indonesia.
A tip for anyone building worksheets: the underscore prints the lines and nothing else, at the width of a normal space, so a row of underscores is a blank practice line. The font shows up in menus as Playwrite ID Guides, 1 Regular weight. Its letters connect through contextual alternates, so if they appear broken in your word processor, check that the feature is on.
