A Note On The Page
Playwrite IE · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

In Playwrite IE even the capitals join up. Wherever it can, an uppercase letter reaches out and links to the letter after it, and the result is a sloped, continuous cursive.
Ireland’s curriculum, the Primary Language Curriculum of 2019, is fully bilingual in English and Irish. Its support material for teachers gives handwriting its own section and suggests children can meet cursive as early as junior infants. Schools still choose their own method, though. Most begin with print, which Irish teachers call manuscript, or with precursive letters in the infant classes, and from Class 1 the children add exit strokes and then join them up.
A few details set this model apart:
- the H has an unusual crossbar
- extenders are short and looped, and the lowercase letters start without curved entry strokes
- b and p build their bowls in different ways
- z has a curved top and a looped tail
Veronika Burian and José Scaglione of TypeTogether drew it, 4 weights from Thin to Regular, with a Guides companion for practice lines. On Google Fonts since May 2024.
