One Family
Every available style is shown below in its own font file.

Aoife fed the hens today
Irish schools get a fair amount of say over handwriting. The Primary Language Curriculum, last published in 2019 and fully bilingual in English and Irish, comes with support material for teachers that gives handwriting a section of its own and suggests cursive can begin as early as junior infants. In the end each school picks its method, and most follow a path something like this:
- in junior and senior infants, print script (called manuscript locally) or precursive letters
- from Class 1, exit strokes added to those letters, and then joined into a cursive hand
Playwrite IE Guides is the ruled version of Playwrite IE. Every letter carries its own 4 lines, baseline, x-height, ascender and descender, so a child can see how far the l climbs past the a and where the g drops below. It comes from TypeTogether, drawn by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, in 1 Regular weight and no more.
The underscore is the teacher’s key. It prints the guidelines without any letter, as wide as a normal space, and a string of them is an empty row to write on. We would set a model word at the start of the line, follow it with underscores, and let the class copy.
