One Family

Polish children learn a cursive with hardly any loops. The model in their primers is a fully joined vertical cursive, and capitals and small letters are taught side by side from the start, while the reading books they practice on are set in a serif. The national core curriculum, the podstawa programowa, barely touches the subject; it asks only that pupils write by hand legibly and fluently, in sentences and in longer text.
Playwrite PL Guides follows that school hand, with ruled guides drawn into each glyph: baseline, x-height, and the limits for ascenders and descenders. An underscore prints the guides by themselves at the width of a word space, which is how a teacher gets blank practice rows on a sheet.
It comes from Veronika Burian and José Scaglione at TypeTogether, part of their Playwrite school family, and has a single Regular weight. Word users need to tick Contextual Alternates under Font, Advanced, before the letters will join up.
