Canada’s public broadcaster speaks 2 languages, as CBC in English and as Radio-Canada in French, and the type it uses has to carry both. Étienne Aubert Bonn of Coppers and Brasses drew Radio Canada Big for CBC/Radio-Canada, the Crown corporation behind both services, and its source lives in a repository named after Radio Canada Display, the related family.
The weights stop at 4, Regular to Bold, each with an italic. Nothing thin, nothing black.
Its width tracks Arial’s almost exactly and the italics are no wider than the romans, so moving a block of text into it, or switching a phrase to italic, leaves your line breaks where they were. The extended Latin takes care of French accents. Google added the family in April 2024.
We would use it for news. Set the headlines in Bold and let the Regular carry the story underneath.
