Look at the ends of the c, the e and the s in Varela. Joe Prince sliced them off vertically, and the same cut shows on the a and g and on capitals like C, G, J and S. That single decision gives an otherwise plain, minimal sans its face.
Prince, who drew it for his studio Admix Designs in 2011, saw it working in body text at small sizes as well as in headlines and menu items. It has a single Regular, and you would want a second weight before setting a long website in it, though the feature set does some of what a bigger family would: small caps with caps to small caps, old style and tabular figures, fractions, discretionary ligatures and 1 stylistic set. 531 characters with Vietnamese.
Navigation bars and restaurant menus, then, where 1 weight is plenty.
