The small cuts in Rationale’s strokes started with the n. Alexei Vanyashin, working at Cyreal with Olexa Volochay and Vladimir Pavlikov, notched the strokes there first and then carried the idea selectively through the alphabet. Above 36 pt you can see the cuts; at body sizes they only lighten the texture.

Underneath sits a modular, strictly geometric frame, corrected here and there by eye, and those small irregularities warm it up. It is compact and monoline, made to work on screen from large headlines down to 12 pt copy.

1 Regular, 214 characters. We’d keep it to headings and interface labels, since without a bold, longer copy has nowhere to go.
