Forest Young has used Redaction’s grades as a storytelling device in a talk, stepping a word down through them so the letters seem to decay while the audience watches. Grade 70 is the frame right before the end of that sequence, the last stop ahead of the fully pixelated Redaction 100.
The decay came out of the source documents. Many of the legal papers behind the project were copies of copies, faxed and scanned until the type broke up, and Young and Jeremy Mickel read that wear as a redaction nobody had intended.
At text size 70 is heavy going. Use it big: a single word or a case number across a poster, or the second to last step of an animated title. Paragraphs belong to the clean grade.
Regular, Italic and Bold exist for it, as for every grade.
