If you have read Japanese boys’ magazines, you have probably seen Reggae already. Fontworks says it turns up there often, and in digital content, and the original Reggae Std B has been used in the anime SHIROBAKO and in the game Tales of Vesperia.
The base is Rodin, Fontworks’ own gothic. For Reggae the ends of the strokes were tapered thinner, which sets up a pulse along every line, and that is why it gets picked for movement and emphasis.
This open version, Reggae One, covers all the glyphs in Adobe-Japan1-3 plus a Latin set, in 1 weight. It came out on the same day in December 2020 as 4 other Fontworks releases: RocknRoll One, Stick, Train One and DotGothic16. Fontworks itself was founded in 1993.
Use it for a sound effect or a shouted line of dialogue. Running text would wear a reader out.
