A Note On The Page

Romanesco · Regular

A short letter, set in the family.

Thursday afternoon

Dear Alex,

I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.

See you there.

Vespers at the old chapel

Romanesco is narrow, a little over half the width of Arial for the same text, and its strokes stab, a nod to historical calligraphic styles. Brian J. Bonislawsky of Astigmatic drew it in a semi-bold weight and gave it enough present-day flair to keep it from feeling like a costume.

That narrowness is the practical reason to pick it. A long title fits on 1 line, a label on a tall bottle has room for a full name. It went up on Google Fonts in August 2012, the same day as Astigmatic’s Galindo, in a single style with Latin and Latin Extended.
