Hebrew and Cyrillic come along in Rubik Bubbles, which you might not expect from a novelty face. They are there because the font is Rubik underneath. Rubik is the sans credited to Hubert and Fischer, Meir Sadan and Cyreal, Cyreal having added the Cyrillic, and NaN, the Berlin studio co-founded by Luke Prowse, ran its outlines through code to make the bubbles.
That code is the Glyph Filters project: Python scripts that run inside the Glyphs editor and redraw a font’s outlines, many of them with Simplex noise driving the shapes. Simon Cozens checked the code; the project website is Underscore Type’s work. Bubbles reached Google Fonts in February 2022 on the same day as Rubik Glitch, Microbe, Puddles, Wet Paint and Moonrocks.
1 style. Because the figures and features come from Rubik, there are tabular figures, a slashed zero and fractions, which a bubble font hardly needs but has anyway. It runs wide and wants big sizes, a party poster or a sticker sheet, a few words at a time.
