Some of the cuts in Saira Stencil One fall where a stencil break ought to be. Others land somewhere odd, on purpose. Omnibus-Type kept the skeleton of Saira, Héctor Gatti’s sans, and sliced precise slits into it, mixing the expected bridges with a few off-beat ones so the rhythm stays a little unpredictable.

The parent comes from the foundry’s Press Series, built for newspapers, magazines, books and websites, and it is enormous: 9 weights over 7 widths, every one with an italic. The stencil keeps to a single Regular, aimed at titles and brand work.

Underneath the gimmick it is a complete font. Tabular and old style figures, a slashed zero, fractions and Vietnamese are all in it, so a label with a batch number or a price is no problem.
