Put white letters on a black panel and they look heavier than the same letters in black on white. Anyone who has made a dark mode screen or a backlit sign has seen it happen. Signika Negative is Anna Giedryś’s answer, a version of her Signika adjusted for exactly that case, so a negative line and a positive line next to each other can read as the same weight.
The parent family was drawn for wayfinding and signage, places where text is read small or from a distance, and so it has low contrast and a tall x-height, with Ronnia, Meta and Tahoma among its references. The Negative cut keeps all of that.
How would you use it? Pair it with regular Signika: the plain version for anything dark on light, this one for the reversed panels, buttons and dark themes, and keep the same weight name in both. There are 5 weights, Light to Bold, plus small caps, tabular figures and a slashed zero for numbers on a departure board.
