Set Sirin Stencil small and the stencil gaps close up, so at body sizes it reads almost as a plain humanist sans. Large, the breaks open and you see the brush-inspired detailing Olga Karpushina put into it. She drew it for display, and it works surprisingly well in small text too.
Karpushina finished the first full version. Alexei Vanyashin at Cyreal then reworked the Z, the L and the figures 2, 4 and 7, adjusted the spacing and mastered the TrueType file as version 1.002. It went up on Google Fonts in January 2012, the same day as Cyreal’s Amethysta.
On a colored background the gaps let the color through, and that gives the letters an optical 3D effect. Try it on a strong flat color in a poster.
