Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Open a document built in Times New Roman on a machine that does not have it, swap in Tinos, and the lines should break where they broke before. That metric match is the reason Tinos exists. Steve Matteson drew it so each character takes the same width as its Times New Roman counterpart, which lets a file travel between systems without its pages reflowing.
He did not copy the shapes, though. Tinos was drawn to be easier on screen, and in May 2013 it got improved hinting to help with that further.
The 4 styles mirror the classic office set: Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic. Coverage is wide, the pan-European WGL character set plus Hebrew and Vietnamese, 2,303 characters in all, so a report in Greek or Russian keeps the same look as its English original. It first appeared on Google Fonts in November 2010.
Pick it when the layout is already fixed around Times and you need it to stay fixed, a legal form or a thesis template. For a new design with no history to honor, there are serifs with more to say.
