Kasper Nordkvist’s readme is disarmingly plain about the font. It calls Uncut Sans yet another slightly quirky sans serif, says it was made without research into the type of any particular era, and adds that there is no deeper meaning behind the design. It was drawn first for UNCUT.wtf.
The quirks sit mostly in the alternates, and that is where we would spend time:
- an alternate R, and alternate Y and y
- a different a, and new 1, 2 and 4
- round punctuation, and alternate !, ? and *
- other arrows, and an alternate Q and Ø
Each group is a stylistic set, so you switch them on through font-feature-settings and can mix them for a brand without drawing anything.
10 styles, Light to Bold, and the italics hold almost exactly the width of their uprights. There are tabular figures, a slashed zero and fractions for the dull jobs too. Latin only.
