Japanese fiction usually marks dialogue with 「 and 」, and a page of a novel can carry dozens of them, each given a full square of space by default. YakuHanMPs narrows those brackets to half width and touches nothing else, so the quotes close up around the speech and the rest of the text keeps its usual rhythm.
The name packs in 2 choices. MP is the Mincho edition of Qrac’s YakuHanJP project, based on Noto Serif JP, so the brackets match a serif Japanese face. The final s means brackets only: 〈〉《》「」『』【】〔〕（）［］｛｝ are covered, while the comma 、, the full stop 。 and marks such as ！ and ？ stay at full width in whatever font comes next.
It works through the CSS font stack. Put it first, as in font-family: YakuHanMPs, "Noto Serif JP", serif, and the browser takes the brackets from this file and every kana and kanji from the font behind it. Vertical forms of the brackets are included for vertical text.
7 weights, 200 to 900, at 44 characters a file. For a long story in Mincho we would choose this version over the full one, since a squeezed 。 at the end of every sentence can make a dense page feel cramped.
