Headlines came first for Archivo. Omnibus-Type drew the family for highlights and headlines, built it from their earlier Chivo, and gave it the air of American grotesques from the late 19th century. There is a normal width, a Black, and this Narrow, with Hector Gatti as its designer.
Later the brief widened to print and screen at once, and to more than 200 languages, Vietnamese among them. The family went variable in April 2020; the 8 files here are the static Regular, Medium, Semi Bold and Bold, each with its italic.
A narrow sans earns its keep in the numbers, and this one brings plenty of them. Old style and lining figures, tabular and proportional spacing, a slashed zero, fractions. A results table set in it stays tidy even when the team names run long.
Past 3 or 4 lines, though, any condensed sans turns gray and tiring, so we keep this one to tables and captions and let a wider face take the paragraphs.
