Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

An italic that stands up straight is the idea behind Artifika. Yulya Zhdanova and Ivan Petrov drew it at Cyreal in 2010 and 2011, keeping the calligraphic curves of an italic hand on an upright frame, with a widening at the start of each stroke that nods to the broad nib it came from.
The serifs are flat and almost horizontal, which pulls the eye along the line, and the descenders are short. They aimed it at fashionable display titling, and that is where we would put it, on a boutique’s sign or the headings of a style magazine. It is a wide face, so give it room. 1 Regular, basic Latin.
