About 300,000 people in Yunnan, China, speak Xishuangbanna Dai, and New Tai Lue is the script they write it in, a simplified form of the Tai Tham, or Old Tai Lue, script that served the language for hundreds of years. Dai Banna SIL is SIL International’s family for it, with a copyright line running back to 1998.
What we would point to is the italics. Each of the 5 weights, Light to Bold, has 1, and they run noticeably narrower than the romans, so emphasis in a Dai text can work the way it does in a Western book.
A Latin set comes along for bilingual material. For schoolbooks and community publishing that is a full family to work with.
