Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Barry Schwartz tuned Fanwood Text for a particular piece of hardware, the Amazon Kindle 3. It is a revival of Fairfield, which the Czech-American designer Rudolph Ruzicka published in 1940, and Schwartz made his roman and italic slightly darker than the original, with less contrast, so they would read better on that device.
Fanwood keeps to book work. There is a Regular and an Italic, no bold, and the features a book typesetter goes hunting for: true small caps and caps to small caps, lining and proportional figures, fractions, superscripts and subscripts.
The letters sit narrow, so a line holds more words than most text serifs allow. Set a novel or a long essay in it at 10 or 11 point in print, and on a phone give it a size more than you think it needs.
