Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Hitesh Malaviya drew the Devanagari and Jonny Pinhorn the Latin, and the part of Laila we like best is how the 2 halves were tuned against each other. The Devanagari stands taller than the Latin lowercase, somewhere between its x-height and its capitals, and its strokes were made a shade lighter, so a paragraph that switches between Hindi and English keeps an even color.
The foundry describes it as an informal sans with brush terminals. The strokes stay mostly monolinear, and the Latin has a high x-height with open counters. Their own word for the result is cute.
It is a display face first, for headlines and posters, and shorter passages work too, though we would stop after a few paragraphs. 5 weights run from Light to Bold with no italics, and the rupee sign is in the character set, which saves a headache on a price tag.
