The name honors Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao, who organized the first World Telugu Conference in 1975 and who, with his family, worked for the well-being of Telugu people. The font was built for news publications. Purushoth Kumar Guttula designed the Telugu in 2013, with many conjunct letters of its own, and Silicon Andhra made it available.
The Latin was borrowed from Vernon Adams’s Nunito. Appaji Ambarisha Darbha, a type designer in Hyderabad, leads the project.
