Guru Angad gave Gurmukhi its present form in the 16th century, and today some 22 million people use it, in India, for the Punjabi language, among followers of the Sikh religion. It is a Brahmic abugida written left to right, with a headstroke along the top of the letters.
This is the Noto sans for it, unmodulated and plain, drawn by the Monotype design team for Google’s collection. It covers 154 characters across 5 Unicode blocks, Gurmukhi and the Common Indic Number Forms among them, along with some Devanagari, Basic Latin and General Punctuation, and, like every Gurmukhi font, it needs software that does complex text shaping.
The useful part is the range. 9 weights from Thin to Black give a Punjabi website or app the same hierarchy an English one would have, from fine captions to heavy headings, and the Latin that comes with it matches them weight for weight.
On Google Fonts since November 2020.
