Samuel Pollard created the script in 1936, taking his cue from Canadian Aboriginal syllabics, and that is why it goes by Pollard Phonetic as often as Miao. It was revised in 1988 and is still in use among the Hmong in China. People write it left to right for A-Hmao, Lipo, Szechuan Miao and Nasu, in southern China and parts of Southeast Asia.
Noto Sans Miao covers the whole Miao Unicode block, 154 characters, in 1 Regular weight with unmodulated strokes and a Latin set beside it. Fine for word lists and school sheets; for emphasis you will have to use size or color, as there is no bold.
