Old land records from Pune
Devanagari largely replaced Modi, but from the 1800s to the 1950s it was a script for Marathi, the state language of Maharashtra. It is an Indic abugida, written left to right.
The Noto version gives it 96 characters across the Modi block and Common Indic Number Forms, in 1 Regular weight with contextual alternates doing the shaping, so it needs software that supports complex text layout. A Latin set is included for transliteration. For anyone transcribing old Marathi papers that is the practical use.
