Inscription 14, south wall
Musnad, Sayhadic, Epigraphic South Arabian: the script goes by all 3. It is an abjad, written right to left, and it carried a group of related Semitic languages, all extinct now, in what is today Yemen and across the Arabian peninsula. Ethiopic writing grew out of it. Arabic replaced it.
Noto Sans Old South Arabian draws its 36 characters as a plain, unmodulated sans and adds Latin and Latin Extended for the transliteration that usually travels with an inscription.
1 Regular style. On a museum label we would set the Latin a size smaller than the script and let the inscription lead.
