Around 40 million people write with the Myanmar script, and it has been in use in Myanmar since about 1000 CE, for Burmese and Mon and for some of the Karen languages. Noto Serif Myanmar is the modulated design for it in Google’s Noto collection, drawn by Ben Mitchell with Monotype’s design team.
The script needs shaping, so the software assembles the letters as you type, with the font’s localized forms doing part of that work. Coverage takes in 239 characters from the Myanmar block and its Extended-A and Extended-B additions, plus general punctuation.
9 weights run from Thin at 100 to Black at 900. We would set books and long articles in the Regular and the Light, and keep the extremes for titles.
