Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Dhaniram Toto created this alphabet in 2015, for a language with about 1,500 speakers. The Toto people live in a single village in the jungle in India, close to the border with Bhutan.
So the user base is tiny and the stakes are high. A script that new depends on fonts to reach paper and screens at all, and Google’s Noto project had the Monotype Design Team draw a serif version: 40 glyphs, left to right, with the complex shaping that Indic alphabets require.
It comes in 4 weights, Regular, Medium, Semi Bold and Bold, enough to give a primer real headings. A Latin set is included, and the family went up on Google Fonts in September 2022.
