Wanted for cattle rustling
Slab serifs were nicknamed Egyptians after the craze for all things Egyptian that followed Napoleon’s campaign there, though the letters have nothing to do with Egyptian writing. They grew up in early 19th century London on posters and advertising; Vincent Figgins showed one he called Antique in a specimen dated 1815.
Brian J. Bonislawsky calls Peralta an Egyptian slab serif gone haywire. Capitals and lowercase put their weight in opposite places, and the whole thing is offbeat on purpose. It reads as a joke, and a good one.
It is a wide face, setting a good deal longer than Georgia, so a few words fill a line. Peralta came out of Astigmatic in June 2012, in 1 Regular style that covers Latin-1, Latin-2, Turkish and Windows Baltic. A saloon sign or a comic headline, fine. A paragraph would be pushing it.
