Lanterns on an old Cairo street
Kufic styles are named after the cities they appeared in, and Qahiri keeps the convention: it is named for Cairo, al-Qahira in Arabic. Khaled Hosny based it on the modernized, regularized form of old manuscript Kufic associated with the late master of Arabic calligraphy Mohammad Abdul Qadir.
Alif Type publishes it as a single Regular with a Latin alongside, 195 characters. Contextual alternates and 2 stylistic sets let letters change shape to suit their neighbors and give you variants to choose from. We would use it for Arabic book titles and logos, or a short quotation set large, where the geometry of the Kufic has room to show.
