Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

In Rozha One the capitals and the lowercase very nearly meet. The small letters climb to more than 4/5 of the cap height, and with capitals kept short a word like “Delhi” reads as 1 even band of black and hairline, the way the fat face lettering on 19th century Western advertising posters did.
That Latin is the work of Shiva Nallaperumal, in the high-contrast modern, or Didone, manner. The Devanagari came from Tim Donaldson and Jyotish Sonowal, and the 2 scripts were tuned to sit together: the headline bar running along the top of the Devanagari is exactly as thick as the Latin serifs, and some strokes and vowel marks echo shapes from the roman side. It still looks like Devanagari, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. The conjuncts and ligatures that Devanagari languages need are all in place.
The Indian Type Foundry in Ahmedabad released it in 2014, in 1 weight.
How small can it go? On screen, keep it very large, because the hairlines are the first thing to break up. Print is kinder, and the foundry thinks 16 or 18 pt is possible there, though we would still save it for a headline or a cover line and set the article in something calmer.
