A script did this. NaN, the Berlin type practice co-founded by Luke Prowse, wrote filters that run inside the Glyphs font editor and rework an existing font automatically. The Glitch filter takes each letter of Rubik, removes the overlaps, cuts it into thin horizontal strips and pushes every strip sideways by an amount Perlin noise decides.
The base is Rubik, the sans by Hubert and Fischer, Meir Sadan and Cyreal, which is why the result still covers Latin, Cyrillic and Hebrew. Glitch is 1 of nearly 30 filtered Rubiks; Glitch Pop, Pixels, Burned, Microbe, Maze and Vinyl are some of the others. Simon Cozens reviewed the filter code.
Set it big. The slices are the whole point, and at small sizes they turn into noise without the joke.
