Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Chapter 3, the night train
Look at the corners. In B1 they are rounded off, and there is ink pooling in the strokes, small swellings that make the characters look printed with ink. Plain Shippori Mincho is the standard, sharp version of the same design.
The design underneath is FONTDASU’s free old-style Mincho for Japanese novelists, after the Tsukiji foundry’s No. 5 type, with kanji built on Genryu Mincho and alternates for readers who are fussy about certain forms. Weights run from a Regular meant for novel text up to an Extra Bold meant for titles.
15,363 characters, 5 weights. For a full novel the clean standard version may be easier on the eyes; we’d use B1 for the title page, a cover, or a short story that wants to feel printed.
