Gate change: now boarding at C14

Strait is for when the space runs out. It is a condensed sans, and Eduardo Rodríguez Tunni built it to do both jobs a narrow face usually has to choose between: headlines, and text that is still comfortable to read at 12 point.

Tunni, who helped start the Argentine foundry Tipo, taught type design at his home university in Buenos Aires for 10 years, and a good share of his working life has gone into custom multilingual fonts for magazines and newspapers. It shows in how plainly practical Strait is.

It went up on Google on the same October day in 2012 as his Paprika. In February 2023 an update enlarged the glyph set and added fractions; Emma Marichal is listed as a contributor to the project. 1 Regular weight. We would use it for a caption column or the labels on a crowded chart.
