Bonjour Monde drew this italic with a trackpad. They call it a trackpad-calligraphy exercise, a way of paying tribute to the old masters with a modern gesture interface, and the old masters in question are the flourished Renaissance italics, Robert Granjon’s among them.
It belongs to Syne, which Lucas Descroix designed for the Synesthésie art center in a Paris suburb, Arman Mohtadji assisting. The italic was tied to the Regular on purpose: same x-height, same optical weight, so it can sit in a line of Syne Regular without looking heavier or smaller.
This file comes from the archived version 1.200 folder of the project. It is 1 style, Latin, with old style and lining figures, fractions, discretionary ligatures and stylistic alternates. It also runs compact; a sentence set in it is close to 9% narrower than in Arial.
The movement in the letters is the reason to use it. A pull quote, a gallery program title, a name on an invitation.
