A letter written by brush
Yuji Kataoka is a calligrapher, and the Yuji fonts are his handwriting brought into digital form by Kinuta Font Factory. There are 3 main kana designs. Boku and Syuku are the other 2, and Mai is the one written loose, the brush moving freely from stroke to stroke.
What caught us is the Latin. It was not lifted from another typeface; the letters were written to match the strokes of the kana, so an English word inside a Japanese line carries the same brush. It runs wide as well, and holds its ground next to the kanji.
8,013 characters, Greek and Cyrillic among them, in a single weight. Put it on a title or a shop sign. A full page of brush wears thin fast, and we would not set body text in it.
