Tea house closes at dusk
Round off the corners of Zen Antique slightly and you have this font. Everything else stays: the 2 kinds of antique Japanese with kanji, and the deliberate wobble in weight between scripts, where hiragana and the Latin letters come out a little lighter and katakana and kanji a little heavier. Mixed Japanese text set in it has an uneven, old-fashioned pulse to it, and the softened corners make that pulse feel warmer.
Yoshimichi Ohira drew it as part of his Zen Fonts collection, which Google Fonts helped him release and which is now the biggest Japanese group in the library. This cut arrived in October 2021.
There is 1 Regular weight, 7,815 characters. Use it for headings and menus, where the antique flavor helps; we would not pick it for a long run of small text on screen.
